🎭 Darren Gilshenan Weekend Comedy Intensive

Sydney Drama School is excited to present The Art of Comedy Acting with Darren Gilshenan, a special two-day weekend intensive designed to unlock the secrets of great comedy performance.

Some people seem to have funny bones naturally, while others don't—but comedy is a skill that can be taught. One of the greatest fears for any actor is, "What if they don't laugh?" Darren has spent years deconstructing the mechanics of comedy and developing practical techniques that help actors consistently find the funny in their work.

Through a combination of exercises, scene work and performance techniques, Darren explores the key ingredients of comedy including tension, contrast, illogical transitions, rhythm, opposition and extension. While comedy can appear mysterious and instinctive, Darren's approach breaks it down into clear, practical tools that actors can apply immediately.

Over two engaging days, participants will develop confidence, sharpen their comedic instincts and gain practical techniques that can be applied to auditions, scene work, monologues and rehearsal processes. Most importantly, they'll discover how much fun comedy can be.
